Searching for Innocence
A dance theatre production by Samudra Arts of India and The Kosh of London
Searching For Innocence:
a collaboration between two ground breaking dance theatre companies.
Samudra the South Indian dance company and the London based physical theatre company, The Kosh are developing a full length dance theatre piece that will tour to over thirty cities and villages throughout India in 2012/13.
Under the joint direction of Madhu Gopinath and Vakkom Sajeev of Samudra and Siân Williams and Michael Merwitzer of The Kosh, the two companies recently undertook an intensive research and development programme in India, supported by the British Council.
From these workshops a new dance theatre production, Searching For Innocence, is evolving; one that marries traditional Indian dance with western dance theatre forms in a new and contemporary style, which aims to engage inter-generational audiences in India, the United Kingdom and internationally.
Inspired by stories from the Bhagavad Gita and in particular the story of Krishna stealing the clothes of the Gopis, Searching For Innocence is an allegorical tale for today from the past. It poses questions about values and the process by which liberation and self-liberation might be achieved.
Production is planned to take place in India over a six week rehearsal period in October/November 2012. The production will involve ten dancers and live musicians and will last about ninety minutes.
Further funding is now being sought for the production of Searching For Innocence.
